In-Person Curriculum Workshops

In mid-March, University of California San Francisco (UCSF) hosted a SAFE’s in-person curriculum building workshop.

SAFE hosts in-person workshops to collaborate with and support creation of Firearm Injury Prevention and Care curriculum at 100% of our nation’s medical schools until we reach that goal.

UCSF SAFE Chapter hosted an opportunity to share successes, exchange ideas, and strengthen our collective impact against the firearm epidemic.

SAFE leaders and medical students, faculty, and researchers came together from 7 different medical schools in California.

Dr. Jahan Fahimi co-moderated the workshop (at podium) and is the Executive Medical Director of UCSF's adult emergency department and a member of SAFE’s National Advisory Board.

Next Curriculum Workshop: OHSU

The next SAFE in-person curriculum workshop is planned for October 9-10 at Oregon Health and Science University in Portland, OR.

SAFE is hosting this workshop and others around the U.S. to collaborate with and support creation of Firearm Injury Prevention curriculum at 100% of our nation’s medical schools until we reach that goal. Click the image or the button below to register.

Aimed at those working in curriculum development in the Pacific Northwest, though other states are welcome to attend.

Register for StandSAFE Virtual Event on April 16

StandSAFE (virtual event) will take place on Thursday, April 16th at 8pm EST/5pm PST. Moderated by Ariana Ali, a medical student from George Washington Medical School, the event will feature SAFE Board Members, Drs. Ted Corbin and James Bigham, from RUSH and the University of Wisconsin College of Medicine and Public Health, respectively.

The focus of the discussion will be the importance of trauma informed care and culturally competent language when talking with patients and community members.

SAFE Firearm Injury Prevention Curriculum Survey

SAFE is working on a project examining how firearm injury prevention education is incorporated into U.S. medical school curricula.

If you work in curriculum at your institution, we ask you to complete the following brief survey.

Yale School of Medicine

Congratulations to the Yale School of Medicine SAFE Chapter for being one of our first certified chapters!

We are excited to hear that in this past year they held a Multi-Disciplinary Panel on Firearm Injury Prevention and community perspectives as well as held a Stop the Bleed event, and promoted local gun buyback events.

We sent them some SAFE scrubs which your SAFE chapter can receive as well if you submit your chapter’s certification checklist.

SAFE would like to hire 1-2 additional full time professional level staff. There are currently only one full-time staff and one half-time staff (data analyst/grant manager that work for SAFE.

Whether you can afford to donate $5/month or $1,000/month or a $100 one-time donation, please click ‘Donate to SAFE’ below and help make this happen for SAFE.

In 2025 SAFE had 125 donors. In 2026, we aim to double that number of donors and reach 250 donors. Please help us get there!
