Medical Students from Wisconsin

As part of a Community Health Education Project (CHEP), three medical students at the University of Wisconsin School of Medicine and Public Health are collaborating with SAFE to propose a Wisconsin Medical Society policy resolution supporting firearm injury prevention education for current and future physicians.

Guided by SAFE Board Vice Chair Dr. James Bigham, the team adapted the successful Texas A&M SAFE chapter resolution and SAFE’s resolution guide to Wisconsin’s policy process. The resolution has been drafted and is expected to be submitted for consideration later this year.

If your SAFE Chapter or a group of physicians or medical students want to attempt a similar resolution supporting firearm injury prevention education in YOUR State, see how to do so here.

SAFE is grateful to the medical students taking this on.

Child Access Prevention Laws are Missing From Many States

Children have access to firearms in many states. SAFE is a strong supporter of Child Access Prevention (CAP) Laws which require firearm owners to safely secure firearms out of the reach of children. These laws are a central part of SAFE’s advocacy work.

Learn more about your state’s secure storage laws on SAFE’s Education on Policy webpage.
