SAFE recently unveiled an update of our educational series, Clinicians and Firearms, a unique curriculum crafted to tackle gun violence as a pressing public health issue. This dynamic, self-paced course is specially designed for medical students, physicians, nurses, and all healthcare professionals eager to make a difference.

Although the course is intended to be completed in its entirety, individual components can be treated as stand-alone to best accommodate program scheduling and goals.

On Sept. 17, SAFE held our semi-annual event where we shared how to effectively engage and educate lawmakers on firearm injury prevention policy using a public health approach.

SAFE is thrilled to announce it has received a $50,000 pledge from our original "angel funders" - The Eagle Fund - from Drs. Julie Parsonnet and Dean Winslow. As two of the founders of SAFE, to say they have done so much for the organization and for gun violence prevention, is a large understatement. They work tirelessly to advocate for their patients, their students, their communities, and for the organization they built in response to learning that only 1/5 of the medical schools in the country include gun violence prevention in their medical school curricula.

With this renewed financial support comes a challenge and hopefully an inspiration to contribute and help raise an additional $50,000 between now and the end of 2024.

4. Develop a robust research wing of SAFE to establish evidence-based best practices for medical student firearm prevention education.
